Here is the second Chapter to my story. Tell me what you think! And I hope you all still enjoy it.
The Hunt
After walking a great distance, they both decided that it was time to stop and make camp.
As they were preparing for the night ahead Haven's stomach began to grumble, Bein heard it from across the campsite. Haven just looked at Bein with uncertain eyes; he had never had to find his own food before. Luckily, Bein was quite an experienced hunter; he had a keen sense for tracking. So, he grabbed his nimble bow and disappeared into the forest. A few hours later they were warm by the campfire and their bellies were stuffed.
When Haven awoke Bein was already up. "You should probably head back home." said Bein.
"Do you know which way you will be headed?" To be quite sure, Haven had not even thought about how he would get back to his little house. "I have never been this far into the this forest before." said Haven with a hint of panic in his voice. Haven did not know which way to go. "Well, you can come and stay with me if you'd like." said Bein. Haven was not sure whether to go wit the elf or not. He was afraid to go even deeper this unfamiliar forest but, eventually, he agreed because he trusted Bein. So, off he went to follow his new friend into a world he had never been.
When they finally arrived, the moon had found it's place in the sky for the night. Bein had a most wonderful home; it was filled with the most delightful trinkets Haven had ever seen. "Where did you get all of these trinkets?" asked Haven. "I made most of them myself." replied Bein with some amusement. As the night grew older, Bein showed Haven where he would sleep and parted to his own bedroom.
That night, Haven dreamt about the beautiful Pegasus. They had found it! Hidden from the rest
of the world in a cave at the top of Twilight Mountain.
Early that morning, as the sun was rising, Bein went to Haven, "If you still want to find this
Pegasus we better head out. But we must first pack some supplies." So as they gathered their things, Haven told Bein about his dream that he had had that night. "Do you think we should travel all the way up into the mountains?" asked Bein. "I think it is worth a try." answered Haven, he was eager to get going. And so, once again, they set off in search of the Pegasus. Both hoping that Haven's dream would lead them on the right path.
Later that evening when they had stopped to make camp, Bein set out once more to find food.
"Would you mind if I accompanied you?" asked Haven. Bein wasn't certain it would be wise to bring him along. "Well, you have to be very quiet and have a lot of patience." he replied. Haven was so excited, he jumped up and got his hunting knife. So out they went to find their supper. As they quietly stalked through the forest, Bein caught a glimpse of a hearty groundhog. He carefully strung his bow and just as he was about to release the arrow Haven, thrilled to spot a fat hare, shouted "There is a good looking hare!"startling Bein and causing him to miss the groundhog. Irritated that the groundhog had gotten away but still having self control, Bein whispered "Keep your voice down. You just made us lose out on a good supper, you blockhead! Besides, that us a doe. Do not even speak eating a mother of the earth to fill your belly in my presence." "Why not?" asked Haven with confusion. "Because the way of the elf doe not believe in eating a creature that inhabits nature with the pure animals of the forest. Now be quiet or we will never find our supper. There is a decent buck hare by that bush that could fill us both."
For the second time that evening, Bein drew back him arrow and as it spun through the air it
pierced the buck hare's side causing it to die. And in the silence of the moment as Bein was giving homage to his kill, Haven leaped into the air with a shout of joy. Bein turned to him with a look of horror. Haven, oblivious to Bein's reaction and with a wide grin of satisfaction on his face, light-heartedly slapped him on the back causing Bein to stumble onto his knees. Bein, the feeling of resentment rapidly rushing through him, snapped in a moment of disregard to thought and walloped Haven on the jaw. Haven, shocked by Bein's aggression but acting fast, got up and tackled Bein to the ground. As Haven was about to exchange the last blow, Bein gathered his wits about him and shouted, "Halt! Cease this nonsense!"
Within a few minutes of silence, Bein had realized that he had sunk to the level of a mere human.
Haven calmed his breathing and walked over to where Bein say. "I cannot believe that I let myself get overwhelmed like that." said Bein. Haven tried to comfort him. "I should not have shouted like that." said Haven understanding that he had acted rather careless earlier. He held out his hand to Bein. Bein took it as Haven helped him get back on his feet. "We better get back to the camp before dark." said Haven. Bein went to gather his kill and they both started back with bloody noses, scrapes, black eyes, and deep gashes; even so, they were closer that ever. "Thank you for understanding, Haven." said Bein, again, realizing how good of friends Haven and himself were becoming, no matter the difference in race. After their bellies were full and their eyes heavy, they both agreed that it was time for bed.
