A Dream Come True

Ever since I can remember I have loved horses. I collected tons of horse stuffed animals, plastic horse toys, and my mom made me a little horse pillow that i couldn't sleep without. I took horse riding lessons when I was around five when we lived in Florida. I would ride a pony named Markeys. I loved that silly pony. I was in shows, won ribbons, and everything. I was a major horse kid. I loved it, I lived and breathed horses. When we moved to the city in Indiana we couldn't find anyone that would give me riding lessons, so I just continued playing with my toy horses and started dreaming of the day I would have my very own horse that i could love, care for, and ride everyday. After six years of living in the city we moved to another neighborhood in the city while we were searching for a home out in the country. When God blessed us with our little home in the country, life felt different. Like I could breathe, live. But I still didn't have my horse. I waited patiently for three more years. When my dad told my mom that we could get a horse I was so excited, but i contained my joy inside because I figured that it would be a little while until we could find the right horse for us. We looked at a couple of horses but none seemed like they were the one that could fill the spot in my heart that had been empty for years. When we went to visit Riley I could feel excitement stirring in my stomach. He acted so well for me and seemed like a perfect horse, so we decided that he was the one that we would bring home with us to find a place in our family. He was wonderful for around two weeks until one day I went out to his pasture, brushed him up, saddled him up, and hopped on to ride all over the yard with my dream horse that I had waited for for so long. But he acted different. He wouldn't go when I told him to, he wouldn't do anything, all he would do is disobey me and act like he was a wild, un-broke horse. Here I was, giving him all the love and care i could give him and he was just walking all over me. So i got a hold of a lady that knew just about anything and everything there is to know about horses. I told her all of what he was doing and how he was acting and she said that he was green-broke and was bullying me. Luckily she lived just five minutes up the street from me! She came over, picked up Riley, and hauled him to her house. Which had a barn to board him, an arena to practice my amazing riding skills, a round pin to train him in, and lots of woods for me to trail ride. So I started training Riley, gained his respect, earned his trust, became his friend not his enemy, and loved him with all the love that I could give him. And in return he gave me his respect, trust, became my best friend, and loved me. I now ride him any chance I can get and he does so well for me. People have told me that they can tell that he loves me so much and is so eager to please me. That brings great joy to me. To know that a once green-broke, bully of a horse loves me and will do whatever I ask of him. I have a strong care and love for horses and would like to one day either become a horse vet or a horse trainer. All I know is that it will have something to do with horses. God has blessed me with an ability to work with horses and I will proceed with that ability. Horses are God's gift to me on this rotten earth, so I will care for anyone of them that comes across my path in this life. Riley is my very first horse and very best friend. If something were to ever happen to him it would affect me as bad as it affected him. He has a special place in my heart that only he can fill. Some of you may not understand my passion for horses, and to tell you the truth, I don't quite understand it either. All I know is that I love them. :) ~Cheyenne
